Nesbitt: Next state budget must cut taxes so everyone can make it in Michigan
February 11, 2026

LANSING, Mich. — Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Township, on Wednesday issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s fiscal year 2027 state budget recommendation:

“It’s no surprise Gov. Whitmer is making one last push to raise your taxes and take more money out of your pocket. This madness must end. That’s why I will fight to make sure Michigan’s next budget has no tax increases and eliminates the waste, fraud and abuse that has built up under her watch. It’s time to reduce the size of state government, make sure every kid can read, back the blue and ensure our roads get fixed. It’s time to cut taxes and the cost of living so hardworking families can keep more of their own money and make it in Michigan once again.”
