Nesbitt outlines legislative priorities for 2022

LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Aric Nesbitt on Wednesday outlined his legislative priorities for the year as the Michigan Senate convened for its first session of 2022.

“It is a great privilege to serve the people of the 26th District at the state Capitol,” said Nesbitt, R-Lawton. “As we begin a new legislative year this week, I once again commit myself to defending our shared values and strengthening Michigan’s economy and our way of life as we continue to combat the effects of the coronavirus on our communities.”

As part of his legislative priorities for 2022, Nesbitt said he will continue to push for the reduction of the individual income tax rate and providing a child tax credit for families.

“Michigan is experiencing large surpluses and inflation is making life more difficult; government should return money to hardworking families,” he said. “Additionally, I will support measures to make Michigan’s business tax rate the lowest in the Midwest. This kind of tax relief will help small businesses and job providers that are already here and attract more businesses, quality jobs, and investments in our communities.”

The senator said he also will continue to work with legislative leaders to prevent a governor from unilaterally increasing the state’s debt and ensure funding received from the federal government to battle the effects of the coronavirus continues to be appropriately allocated.

“These one-time resources should be invested in our roads and water infrastructure, used to expand broadband access, and support generational capital projects that will improve the overall health of our communities, our economy and the future of all Michigan residents,” Nesbitt said.

“Michigan has tremendous potential and we know what policies work. I will continue fighting to expand freedom, promote economic opportunity for everyone, balance budgets and reduce debt, and most importantly, help our families and our future.”
