LANSING, Mich. — Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Township, on Thursday issued the following statement after Senate Democrats fast-tracked legislation to help support the governor’s pitch to raid the state’s teacher retirement fund as part of the 2025 fiscal year budget:
“The last-minute maneuvering and bill changes being pushed through the Legislature without public hearings or proper scrutiny is sadly only par for the course for this new Democrat majority in the Senate. This ill-advised raid on Michigan’s teacher retirement fund is not worth the cost of our children’s education. Unfortunately, we have seen the results of this kind of financial irresponsibility before — the hardworking people of Michigan simply cannot afford to return to the Lost Decade policies of the Granholm administration, racking up debt and sticking future generations with the bill.”
