LANSING, Mich. — Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Township, made the following statement Wednesday after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order to create another department of education within the state’s executive bureaucracy — a new Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement and Potential (MiLEAP) to partner with the already established Michigan Department of Education and State Board of Education:
“More government does not fix bad government. I believe the people of Michigan would prefer our governor focus more on ensuring children can read and less on scaling back education accountability standards and creating more government bureaucracy.”
