LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Aric Nesbitt, R-Lawton, along with Beth Griffin, R-Mattawan, on Wednesday honored Michigan State Police Trooper Mark Fletcher after he was named the 2020 International Association of Chiefs of Police and Motorola Solutions Trooper of the Year.

Fletcher received the honor for his heroic actions during a deadly home invasion.

“We hold the greatest respect and admiration for Trooper Fletcher for his courageous actions,” Nesbitt said. “Trooper Fletcher ran toward a situation that most would run from. While prestigious in itself, this award could never truly reflect the gratitude we as a community have for Trooper Fletcher and officers like him.”

The 2020 International Association of Chiefs of Police and Motorola Solutions Trooper of the Year Award demonstrates appreciation for Trooper Fletcher’s bravery, courage, leadership, and professionalism and gratitude for all that he has endured and contributed in the protection of the communities he serves.

“Trooper Fletcher is a textbook embodiment of a true public servant,” Griffin said. “Not only did he quickly respond to a hostile situation, he remained calm when the situation took a turn for the worst. We can all take comfort in knowing troopers like Mark Fletcher are on the job. He is a first-class example of professionalism, courage and dedication.”
