LANSING, Mich. — Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Township, on Thursday issued the following statement criticizing Democrat leadership in charge of the chamber’s agenda for stalling on bipartisan legislation that would preserve Michigan’s tip credit system and save thousands of jobs:
“Leaders in the Senate majority have been ‘reviewing’ this issue for six months while Michigan speeds toward one of the biggest economic disasters our state has ever known. What is left to review? What are they waiting for?
“Instead, Democrats still can’t bring themselves to be productive. Last week, they adopted a resolution to try and sue the House because their trifecta failed to do their job. They dropped another surprise, pointless resolution based on a message Americans rejected last November.
“We are just weeks away from changes taking effect in state law that will cripple Michigan’s hospitality industry — 50,000 of our friends and neighbors desperately need their legislators to intervene. And what are they getting from Senate Democrats? They are more focused on transcribing MSNBC segments into state resolutions.
“The new House majority has delivered on its promise to pass properly vetted, bipartisan bills. Senate Democrats have a responsibility to the thousands of hardworking Michigan servers and small business owners whose restaurants and livelihoods are at risk. We must move together on this legislation with a sense of urgency. Time is running out.”
